Hifadhi Africa Organization (HAO) is a non-governmental, not for profit organization that promotes access to quality education, health care, water and youth mentorship among underserved communities in Kenya, especially pastoralists and slum dwellers. The organization was established in July 2013, under Section 10 of the NGO ACT of 1990 with charity registration No.OP.218/051/13-0188/8936. As of 2015, HAO has 13 highly passionate and dedicated professional volunteers embedded in our vibrant organizational culture.
To afford equal opportunities to societies for prosperity
To be the most relevant African organization for the people by the people of Africa through empowerment, sustainable development and harmonious coexistence
To promote access to quality education in Pastoralists communities through integration of technology.
The Future of H.A.O
Our focus is working towards transforming lives through poverty alleviation in Kenya and Africa at large through community-based sustainable projects. The target group of children and young women are part of an underserved population in Kenya that faces higher than average dropout rates. This group has faced decades of hardships – decimated by female genital mutilation, early arranged marriages, radical militia groups and extreme poverty.
HAO aims to reduce the current 96% illiteracy level in East Pokot by providing educational materials to students, teachers, schools and communities that currently lack the ability to provide such materials. It also aims to spark community awareness on the importance of educating pastoral children, and showcase the empowering effects that technology and education can have on impoverished communities. The project is set to enhance the quality of education being offered by schools by training teachers and encouraging residents of East Pokot to send their children to schools. Currently, students do not have access to technology during their studies. This year round access to technology and education has been shown to empower communities and give youth an outlet that can reduce their chances of early pregnancies, and engaging in illegal activities such as cattle rustling and substance abuse.
Hifadhi Africa Organization believes education is the gateway to a literate and civilized society that is able to articulate issues and position itself to benefit out of the opportunities being envisioned. We serve as the link to this dream and we pride ourselves in becoming part of the change.
